Introduction

If you’re reading this, you may be exhausted.

Exhausted by years of fragmented appointments. Exhausted by being told your symptoms are unexplainable, or just stress, or just the way you are, or that you just have to live with it. Exhausted by treatments that target one symptom while the rest of what your body is doing goes completely unaddressed.

The London Resilience Clinic was founded to fill this gap. We are the only UK clinic offering the North-American style of integrative adult medicine for neurodivergence (ADHD, autism, and those with neurodivergent traits without a diagnosis), and complex chronic health conditions with overlapping presentations, including fibromyalgia, hypermobility and EDS, MCAS, POTS, long COVID and burnout, anxiety, and other mystery symptoms.

We address the whole interconnected biological picture. Not just the surface symptom.

This guide is an introduction to how we work, what becomes possible when treatment is built around your actual biology, and how to get started.

Why standard care often falls short

Why standard care often falls short

Most patients reach us after years of siloed appointments — a gastroenterologist for the gut, a psychiatrist for the brain, a rheumatologist for the joints. None of them talking to each other. None of them looking at the full picture. None of them taking into account how being neurodivergent may affect what works best for you.

This isn’t a failure of individual doctors. It’s a structural problem in how medicine is organised. Conventional medicine is built around single-organ specialties and single-diagnosis protocols. But the conditions most of our patients live with don’t sit neatly inside one specialty’s box.

The result is symptom whack-a-mole. Treat one thing and another flares. See a new specialist and get a new prescription that conflicts with the last one. Be told your tests are normal while you feel anything but.

The four things we hear most often from patients arriving at the clinic:

Your biology is dismissed.

Ask about diet, micronutrients, methylation, the microbiome or the gut-brain connection and most doctors have nothing to offer — even when these have well-established research behind them.

Therapies don’t fit your brain.

Standard CBT and similar approaches can be ineffective or actively counterproductive for neurodivergent adults, and for anyone whose symptoms have a significant physiological driver that talking alone cannot address.

Medication is one-size-fits-all.

Standard doses, standard drugs, side effects managed with more drugs. No root-cause work underneath. No tailoring of dosages to the way your body metabolises things.

No one owns the whole picture.

Conditions like MCAS, dysautonomia, AuDHD burnout and complex chronic fatigue span multiple body systems. No single specialist takes ownership, so the underlying drivers go entirely unaddressed and each doctor recommends things in their area without considering how their recommendations may affect everything else outside their narrow scope of focus.

The biology connecting your symptoms

The biology connecting your symptoms

This is the most important thing to understand about how we work.

The conditions we treat — whether that’s fibromyalgia, hypermobility and EDS, MCAS, POTS, anxiety, ADHD, autism, AuDHD, long COVID or complex burnout — don’t sit in separate biological boxes, even though conventional medicine treats them as if they do.

Across all of these conditions, we keep finding the similar root contributors showing up under different diagnostic labels. When you understand this, it becomes clear why treating one diagnosis in isolation so rarely produces lasting results.

A nervous system stuck in survival mode.

A measurable physiological state — not a personality trait — that drives pain, fatigue, gut symptoms, sensory sensitivity, sleep problems and mood symptoms regardless of the diagnostic label attached to them.

Gut-brain-immune axis disruption.

The gut and the brain are in constant communication via the immune system, the vagus nerve and the metabolites produced by gut microbes. When this system is dysregulated, the downstream effects include brain fog, mood instability, pain and inflammation — often without any obvious digestive symptoms at all.

Mitochondrial dysfunction.

The cellular machinery that produces energy for everything your brain and body does. When it isn’t working efficiently, you get exhaustion that doesn’t respond to rest, poor stress tolerance, slow recovery and cognitive fog that worsens through the day.

Neuroinflammation.

Chronic low-grade inflammation in the brain and nervous system that changes how you process pain, mood, attention and sensory input. Recognised as a central driver across fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, anxiety, depression, ADHD and autism — but almost never even acknowledged in standard care.

Methylation differences.

Genetic variations affecting how your body processes nutrients, clears toxins and produces neurotransmitters. These affect energy, mood, medication tolerance and how well other treatments work — and are identifiable with testing so you can get a plan that works better for your biological needs.

Hidden contributors.

SIBO, mould exposure, stealth infections, mast cell activation, hormone imbalances. These sit underneath everything else and keep the system inflamed and dysregulated regardless of what else you try.

This is why two people with the same diagnosis can present completely differently. And why personalised treatment — built around your specific combination of drivers — produces results that standard protocols cannot.

Conditions we treat

Conditions we treat

We specialise in the conditions and presentations that fall between the cracks of conventional medicine — and particularly in the overlapping pictures that most clinics are not equipped to address together.

We also see adults who have a diagnosis — or several — but have never had anyone look at the full biological picture and build a plan that connects the dots.

ADHD

Adult ADHD is far more than a concentration deficit. It is a systemic neurotype that affects the autonomic nervous system, gut, hormones, immune system and connective tissue — which is why the hypermobility, the gut symptoms, the hormone sensitivity, the emotional dysregulation and the burnout so many of our patients experience are not coincidences. They are a biologically connected reality.

Most adults reach us after a late diagnosis — often in their 30s, 40s or 50s, frequently after a burnout collapse. Decades of masking and compensating to survive in neurotypical environments keep the autonomic nervous system locked in chronic sympathetic arousal, eventually tipping into severe biological burnout that standard care regularly misreads as anxiety, depression or chronic fatigue.

Around 47% of adults with ADHD have a comorbid anxiety disorder. Around 40% of autistic adults also have ADHD. ADHD symptoms are also heavily modulated by oestrogen — which is why many women see dramatic worsening pre-menstrually, postpartum and through perimenopause.

Our approach addresses the whole picture: low-dose personalised stimulant protocols paired with nutraceuticals that support dopamine naturally, cannabinoid medicine to reduce anxiety and stabilise sleep, functional testing to uncover gut-brain-immune roadblocks, and nervous system regulation to build the biological capacity that makes everything else work.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

We do not view autism as something to be cured. It is a distinct neurotype — with real strengths alongside real differences in sensory processing, social processing and interoception. What we treat are the very real overlapping physical and mental health conditions autistic adults are far more likely to experience, the consequences of decades of masking, and the biological burnout that follows.

The masking-to-burnout pipeline is one of the most under-recognised patterns in adult medicine. Many autistic adults we work with are late-diagnosed, only realising they are autistic after a serious collapse in their 30s, 40s or 50s. Decades of chronic sympathetic arousal eventually drive measurable biological collapse — dysautonomia, hypermobility pain, MCAS, gut symptoms and profound fatigue. This is not psychological failure. It is biological, and exactly what integrative medicine is designed to address.

Standard care typically separates mental from physical symptoms, offers group CBT that frequently worsens sensory overwhelm, and prescribes medications that assume a neurotypical nervous system. We do the opposite: ASD-friendly nervous system regulation using biofeedback and audio entrainment programs, cannabinoid medicine personalised to sensory sensitivity, functional medicine to identify gut dysbiosis and methylation differences, and a treatment plan that is explicitly designed around how an autistic nervous system actually works.

Anxiety and Nervous System Burnout

Anxiety is one of the most treated, yet least understood conditions in standard medicine. Most adults with complex anxiety reach us after years on SSRIs that blunted their personality without resolving the root cause, or CBT that tried to think their way out of a physiological state. Neither addresses what is actually driving the picture.

Chronic anxiety is frequently rooted in an autonomic nervous system locked in fight-or-flight — driven by gut-brain axis dysfunction, microbiome imbalance, hormone sensitivity, undiagnosed POTS or dysautonomia, methylation pathway differences, or the long biological consequences of neurodivergent masking. When these drivers remain unaddressed, standard treatments produce partial or temporary results at best.

Our approach is root-cause and biology-first. We identify the specific physiological contributors through advanced functional testing — including gut, hormone, methylation and genomic panels — and treat them directly. We use CBD-dominant cannabinoid formulations to rapidly calm the amygdala’s threat response and support cortisol pathways while deeper work is underway. We use neuromodulation devices, biofeedback and somatic regulation practices that work from the body up, rather than asking an overwhelmed nervous system to think its way to safety. For patients on medications they want to reduce, we support careful, personalised tapering alongside the root-cause work.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic, multi-system condition and one of the most under-served in conventional medicine. Patients are frequently told to accept their symptoms, offered heavy neuroleptics or antidepressants that carry significant side effects, and discharged from pain clinics with no credible plan. Brain fog — often cited as more disabling than the pain itself — has virtually no treatment pathway in standard care.

The biology is real, and it is treatable. Fibromyalgia involves central sensitisation (a hypersensitive nervous system amplifying pain signals), HPA-axis dysregulation producing abnormal cortisol patterns, gut-brain-immune axis dysfunction, mitochondrial impairment driving profound fatigue, and endocannabinoid system deficiency — a mechanism now well-documented in the research. It also rarely travels alone: around 35% of fibromyalgia patients have hypermobility or hEDS, around 60% have anxiety, and MCAS is increasingly recognised as a hidden driver of flares.

Our treatment addresses all of these mechanisms together. Personalised cannabinoid medicine — THC:CBD ratios specifically calibrated for pain, neuroinflammation and restorative sleep. Functional testing to assess mitochondrial function, gut dysbiosis, SIBO and systemic inflammation. Neuromodulation and somatic regulation to dampen central sensitisation. Therapeutic diets and clinical-grade nutraceuticals based on individual biomarkers. Where MCAS is present, we treat it directly, which alone often produces a significant reduction in fibromyalgia symptoms.

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)

MCAS is a complex neuro-immune condition that most conventional doctors are not trained to recognise, let alone treat. Patients experience hypersensitivity reactions across multiple body systems — unexplained allergic-type responses, food sensitivities that don’t appear on standard allergy tests, flushing, heart rate irregularities, gut dysfunction, brain fog and severe fatigue — and are routinely told their symptoms are psychosomatic, or simply sent home with antihistamines and no further plan.

The mast cell system is intimately connected to the nervous system, gut, immune system and connective tissue. When it is dysregulated, nothing in the body operates in isolation. This is why MCAS so commonly travels with EDS and hypermobility (around 1 in 3 MCAS patients have a comorbid hEDS diagnosis), POTS and dysautonomia, fibromyalgia, IBS and neurodivergent burnout.

Our treatment addresses the whole neuro-immune picture: identifying and removing hidden triggers including mould, stealth infections and food sensitivities through advanced functional testing; mast cell stabilising medications and nutraceuticals personalised to your reactivity level; cannabinoid medicine, which has direct mast cell stabilising effects and modulates the HPA axis (itself a significant mast cell trigger); low-histamine and elimination dietary protocols; and coordinated management of all overlapping conditions under one plan, so that each system is treated in relation to the others rather than in fragmented isolation.

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Hypermobility

EDS and hypermobility are not simply about flexible joints. Connective tissue is found in virtually every organ — the gut, blood vessels, autonomic nervous system, skin and immune tissue — which is why people with hEDS so often present with multi-system symptoms and are bounced between rheumatology, gastroenterology, cardiology and psychiatry without anyone ever connecting the picture.

The published research — and our own 15 years of clinical experience — consistently shows extremely high rates of overlap. Around 40–50% of hEDS patients have POTS. Around 35% have fibromyalgia. The “trifecta” of hEDS, POTS and MCAS is so common that many clinicians now consider them facets of one underlying biological picture. A significant proportion of hEDS patients are also neurodivergent — and recognising both matters enormously for treatment, since the same nervous system dysregulation drives both presentations.

Our approach addresses collagen and connective tissue support, autonomic nervous system regulation, mitochondrial function and the gut-brain-immune axis simultaneously. We use personalised cannabinoid medicine for neuropathic pain, MCAS and sleep; low-dose naltrexone where indicated; functional testing for SIBO, intestinal permeability and micronutrient deficiencies common in this population; vagal nerve stimulation and diaphragm retraining; and EDS-appropriate movement protocols that build strength without provoking post-exertional malaise.

Treatments

Treatments

Every patient at the London Resilience Clinic receives a personalised plan built around their specific biology — not a condition label, not a protocol off a shelf. Because the conditions we treat are interconnected, our treatments are designed to work together: addressing the nervous system, gut-brain-immune axis, mitochondrial function, hormones and endocannabinoid system simultaneously rather than targeting one symptom at a time. This is what makes the difference for patients who have already tried standard care and stalled.

Personalised medication

We are not anti-medication. When conventional medications genuinely help, we use them — but carefully chosen, carefully dosed, and always alongside the root-cause work rather than instead of it.

We also use a range of evidence-based integrative and botanical medicines, clinical-grade nutraceuticals and therapeutic diets as part of personalised treatment plans. What this looks like in practice varies significantly depending on your specific drivers, sensitivities and goals.

Functional medicine testing

Functional medicine is the biochemical pillar of our work. Where standard NHS testing uses a narrow set of markers that frequently come back “normal” even when something is clearly wrong, functional testing looks at how your body is actually working.

We use advanced testing of stool, urine, saliva and where needed blood to investigate the specific drivers most relevant to your case. This typically includes comprehensive microbiome analysis, organic acids testing to assess brain chemistry and mitochondrial function, methylation and genetic variant testing, mitochondrial assessment, micronutrient status, and hormone and thyroid panels.

Every test we order is chosen because the result will change something in your treatment plan. We do not run tests for the sake of running tests. Results are interpreted alongside your full clinical picture and history, and then we build the plan with you.

Nervous system regulation

A dysregulated nervous system is one of the most significant — and most overlooked — drivers across every condition we treat. When the autonomic nervous system is stuck in fight-or-flight, it is genuinely impossible to heal on a cellular level. Regulation is not an optional add-on to treatment. It is a prerequisite for everything else working.

We use a range of approaches tailored to your presentation and sensitivities — from simple evidence-based breathing and somatic practices you can use at home, to device-based neuromodulation tools including vagal nerve stimulators and biofeedback for those who need more support. We help you choose the approach that fits your nervous system, your lifestyle and your capacity.

Cannabinoid Medicine

Cannabinoid Medicine

Another of the things that sets the London Resilience Clinic apart from every other clinic in the UK is our depth of expertise in prescription medical cannabis as part of the integrative approach where needed — and how we use it as a precision clinical tool within a broader treatment plan.

Dr Dani Gordon is the most experienced cannabinoid medicine specialist in the UK, with 15 years experience prescribing these medications first in North America and then when she moved to the UK in 2019, was one of the first physicians in the UK to prescribe medical cannabis after legalisation in 2018, was a founding member and vice chair of the UK Medical Cannabis Clinician’s society and has since mentored many of the UK’s specialist prescribers and continues to do so.

Dr Luisa Searle brings extensive expertise from and was awarded the top cannabis medicine doctor in the UK in 2025. Between them, our team has among the most extensive clinical experience with medical cannabis in the UK — particularly in the complex, sensitive patient populations we treat.

Prescription medical cannabis is not the same as over-the-counter CBD oil. It is a regulated, pharmaceutical-grade medicine prescribed by a specialist doctor, containing specific ratios of cannabinoids — primarily CBD and THC — along with naturally occurring terpenes and minor cannabinoids that influence its clinical effect.

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is one of the body’s master regulatory networks, influencing mood, pain processing, sleep, immune function, appetite, stress response and neuroinflammation. In many of the conditions we treat — fibromyalgia, MCAS, EDS, chronic fatigue, anxiety, ADHD and autism — the ECS is dysregulated, meaning the brain’s natural ability to modulate stress, pain and inflammation is impaired. Prescription cannabis works directly on this system in ways that over-the-counter products simply cannot replicate.

We never use cannabis as a standalone treatment. It is always one component of a personalised plan — chosen where it genuinely adds clinical value and where the risk-benefit profile makes sense for that patient.

In practice, our prescribing is highly individualised. The cannabinoid ratio, terpene profile, dose and timing are all tailored to your specific symptom picture, sensitivities and goals. We start low and titrate slowly — particularly in neurodivergent and complex chronic illness patients, who often have a heightened cell danger response and require a more careful approach than standard prescribing protocols assume.

Broadly, we use CBD-dominant formulations for daytime use — to reduce anxiety, calm sensory overwhelm, modulate neuroinflammation and support nervous system regulation without psychoactive impairment. We use balanced or THC-containing formulations, typically at night or in low doses, for pain, restorative sleep, severe anxiety and conditions where the endocannabinoid deficiency picture is more significant.

Conditions where it helps most

Fibromyalgia

The endocannabinoid system is directly implicated in fibromyalgia — there is a well-established research basis for clinical endocannabinoid deficiency in this condition. Prescription cannabis can produce meaningful reductions in pain, neuroinflammation and the non-restorative sleep that drives the condition.

Hypermobility and EDS

Neuropathic pain, central sensitisation and autonomic dysfunction all respond to very low dose cannabinoid medicine in ways that conventional pain medications often don’t. We use it to reduce pain flares, support sleep and calm the mast cell and immune dysregulation that frequently accompanies hEDS.

MCAS

Cannabinoids have direct mast cell stabilising effects and modulate the HPA axis, which is itself a significant mast cell trigger. For patients with MCAS, prescription cannabis can reduce the frequency and severity of reactions and lower the overall inflammatory burden, again at very low doses.

Anxiety and nervous system dysregulation

CBD-dominant formulations work on cortisol pathways, GABAergic signalling and the amygdala’s threat-detection response. For patients with severe anxiety, panic or a nervous system stuck in chronic fight-or-flight, this can produce rapid symptom relief while the deeper root-cause work is underway.

ADHD

Carefully dosed cannabinoid medicine can help regulate dopamine via the endocannabinoid system, reduce anxiety, and stabilise sleep — often reducing the dose of stimulant medication needed, or addressing the side effects stimulants produce in sensitive patients to allow for better medication tolerance while still alleviating core ADHD symptoms.

Autism and AuDHD

Sensory overwhelm, anxiety, meltdowns, sleep collapse and the endocannabinoid dysregulation common in autistic adults all generally respond well to cannabinoid medicine when prescribed precisely. We have significant experience with this population and understand the particular sensitivity and the need for very careful titration.

Chronic fatigue and long COVID

Neuroinflammation, sleep disruption and autonomic dysfunction are all targets for cannabinoid medicine in post-viral and chronic fatigue presentations.

It is not a cure. It is not appropriate for every patient. It is not something we prescribe without a thorough clinical assessment and a clear rationale. And it is not the only tool we use — in every case it sits within a broader plan addressing the root biological drivers.

Prescriptions are fulfilled through regulated UK pharmacies and dispensed to your home.

Costs vary depending on the formulation and dose required, and are discussed in detail during your initial consultation. Many patients find that prescription cannabis reduces their reliance on other medications over time, which offsets some of the cost.
